"Hey Google, turn on the living room light" – How to Integrate Tuya Devices with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa

Imagine this scenario: your hands are full carrying groceries, and the hallway is dark. Instead of groping around for a light switch, you simply say: "Hey Google, turn on the hallway light." A moment later, the room is bathed in a bright glow. This isn't magic; it's the power of integrating your Tuya smart home with voice assistants!

Having smart devices controlled via an app is a huge convenience. But being able to manage your home using simple voice commands takes comfort to an entirely new level. It is intuitive, fast, and incredibly impressive.

If you are already using the Tuya ecosystem, we have great news for you. The vast majority of devices in our lineup seamlessly work with the most popular assistants on the market: Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. In this article, we will show you how to connect these worlds in a few simple steps and start talking to your home.

Why Should You Connect Tuya with a Voice Assistant?

  • Unmatched convenience: Turn lights on and off, change their color, adjust temperatures, or run a fan when your hands are full or you simply don't feel like reaching for your phone.

  • Intuitive operation: Speech is the most natural form of communication. Voice control is easy for everyone in the household to master, including children and seniors.

  • Creating advanced routines: Voice assistants let you build custom routines. A single command like "Hey Google, I'm leaving" can trigger an entire sequence of actions: turn off all lights, arm the security alarm, and cut power to smart plugs.

  • The "WOW" factor: Let's face it – managing your home using your voice makes a huge impression on guests and gives you the feeling of living in a home from the future.

Step by Step: How to Connect Tuya (Smart Life) to Google Assistant

Integration is truly simple and takes literally a few minutes. Make sure you already have the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app installed and configured, alongside the Google Home app on your smartphone.

  1. Open the Google Home app.

  2. In the top left corner, tap the plus "+" icon.

  3. Select the "Set up device" option.

  4. Under the "Works with Google" section, select "Works with Google" (or "Have something already set up?").

  5. You will see a list of available services. Use the magnifying glass in the top right corner and search for "Smart Life" (or "Tuya Smart", depending on which app you use).

  6. Select the found app from the list. You will be redirected to a login page.

  7. Log in to your Tuya/Smart Life account using the exact credentials (email/password) you use in your device control app.

  8. Authorize the service connection by tapping "Authorize" or "Link Now".

  9. Google Home will automatically import all your devices and scenes from the Tuya app. You can now assign them to specific rooms (e.g., "Bulb 1" to "Living Room").

  10. You're all set! From now on, you can control your devices.

    Sample Commands for Google Assistant:

    • "Hey Google, turn on the bedroom light."

    • "OK Google, turn off all lights."

    • "Hey Google, set the bedside lamp brightness to 30%."

    • "OK Google, change the living room light color to blue."

    • "Hey Google, turn on the TV plug."

    • "OK Google, what is the temperature in the kid's room?" (for thermostats)

Step by Step: How to Connect Tuya (Smart Life) to Amazon Alexa

The process is very similar to Google Assistant. You need the Amazon Alexa app and, of course, your Tuya/Smart Life account login details.

    1. Open the Amazon Alexa app.

    2. Tap the "More" button in the bottom right corner.

    3. Select "Skills & Games" from the menu.

    4. Use the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner and search for the "Smart Life" skill (or "Tuya Smart").

    5. Select the found skill and tap the "Enable To Use" button.

    6. You will be taken to a login page. Enter your Tuya/Smart Life account details and sign in.

    7. Authorize the connection between the services.

    8. Upon successful authorization, close the window and in the Alexa app, tap "Discover Devices". Alexa will scan your network for devices linked to your Tuya account.

    9. That's it! Your devices are now ready for voice control via Alexa.

      Sample Commands for Amazon Alexa:

      • "Alexa, turn on the bedroom light."

      • "Alexa, turn off all lights."

      • "Alexa, set the living room light to 50 percent."

      • "Alexa, change the desk lamp to warm white."

      • "Alexa, turn on the coffee machine plug."

A Few Practical Tips Before You Go

      • Use simple names: In the Tuya/Smart Life app, name your devices in a simple and logical way (e.g., "Floor Lamp", "Table Light", "TV Plug"). It will be much easier for the assistant to understand.

      • Synchronize changes: If you add a new device in the Tuya app, tell the assistant: "Hey Google, sync my devices". The new hardware will instantly become available for voice control.

      • Utilize rooms: Assigning devices to specific rooms in the Google Home or Alexa app allows for group commands, e.g., "OK Google, turn off the kitchen lights."

Integration with voice assistants is a natural step in the evolution of a smart home. It's a technology that genuinely simplifies life and makes everyday chores easier and more enjoyable.
